I recently found out about Global Green USA's Green School Makeover Competition presented by Pureology through Influenster. I have so many friends and family members who are working in schools that are in desperate need of environmental upgrades, so I am so excited to be able to feature this contest on Ashley Brooke. Here is the information about the contest from Pureology's website:
THE CONTEST:
Every child deserves a learning environment that’s safe, healthy, free of harmful toxins and optimal for learning. Unfortunately, many schools across the country are subjecting children to unhealthy classrooms with poor lighting and inefficient energy usage, which costs most schools more money than they spend on books and computers. Global Green USA is working to change this by helping to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn in a healthier, greener school. Pureology is pleased to present Global Green USA’s Green School Makeover Competition. You can help a school in your area by nominating it for a Green School Makeover – read on to learn more, and find out how.
- From March 1 – September 30, 2011, enter your school for a chance to win a "green school" makeover.
- There will be one grand prize winner and four schools will each receive $2,500 towards their green school renovations

BENEFITS OF A GREEN SCHOOL
Green schools are designed, built, renovated or operated in an ecological and resource-efficient manner. Green schools have numerous benefits for children, staff and our environment:
IMPROVED STUDENT PERFORMANCEWhen children learn in healthy, green classrooms – with natural daylight, improved sound quality, and non-toxic paints and carpets – test scores can improve as much as 25%.
BETTER HEALTHProper ventilation and the use of green, non-VOC building materials improves student and teacher health, resulting in fewer sick days, increased teacher retention and better student attendance.
MORE MONEY FOR STUDENT RESOURCESWhen a school is "greened," operating costs for energy and water can be reduced by as much as 40%, and funds can be channeled back into textbooks, computers and other essentials.
REDUCED CARBON FOOTPRINTGreening a school reduces carbon dioxide emissions that cause global warming.
WATER CONSERVATIONGreen schools use up to 32% less water.
When students learn in a green school, they’re encouraging a lifetime of environmentally conscious habits!
